TAMPA -- The Tampa Bay Rowdies today announced the signing of goalkeeper Andrew Fontein and defender Draymond Washington to two-year contracts, with the first year guaranteed and the second year a club option. Fontein and Washington both joined the team as trialists this preseason.
Fontein (6-1, 190) hails from Las Vegas and played collegiately at UC-Irvine. He finished his four-year career as the program’s all-time leader in wins (50), shutouts (29), goals against average (0.88) and win percentage (.747). Fontein was named Big West Goalkeeper of the Year in 2011 and was a three-time All-Big West first or second team selection.
Washington (6-1, 180) is a native of Potomac, Maryland and saw action in 68 matches for George Mason University during his four-year career. Washington also served as team captain for Real Maryland FC in 2011, seeing action in 15 games.
