Potential New Clinic for District and Upcoming Massive Medical Care Event to be Discussed at School Board Workshop

Posted
BRADENTON – The possibility of building a clinic for Manatee School District employees is up for discussion at Tuesday's school board workshop, which will also include information about a free clinic event to be held in November for all in need of basic medical care.

The idea of an on-site clinic for district employees has been a topic of discussion for the school board for years. In 2011, the school board was presented with information on the idea by Concentra Total Care. Though the idea of building a clinic was not rejected outright by the board at the time, board members and then-Superintendent Tim McGonegal said moving forward with the project at that particular point in time–when the district's health care fund had a multi-million dollar deficit–would have been a "distraction."

Board members will also hear from Manatee Technical College Director Doug Wagner regarding Remote Area Medical's event at MTC, slated for November 21-22. The Tennessee-based non-profit organization hosts large-scale medical clinic events free of charge to people in need of care, and made its debut in Manatee County last year.

The workshop will take place in the school board chambers, at 215 Manatee Avenue West in Bradenton. An executive session closed to the public will start the workshop at 2:30 p.m. Following the session, the workshop will open to the public. A meeting scheduled to take place at 5:45 p.m. will follow the workshop.
