Realize Bradenton Brings 14 Groovy Ways to

BRADENTON -- Realize Bradenton, which is responsible for administering both the Farmers’ Market on Old Main and McKechnie Field, partnered with The Manatee Players, The Village of the Arts, South Florida Museum and the Pittsburgh Pirates to coordinate and sponsor these seven groovy events bringing the 1960s  back  for an encore.

Hula Hooping, Farmers’ Market on Old Main, Saturday, March 19, 9 AM – 2 PM
The zany WHAM-O company introduced hula hoops in the 60s and sold 25 million in four months!  Kids and adults are invited down to the Market to twirl their hips in hula hoop paradise with the Hula Monsters www.hoolamonsters.com. Twenty hoops will be given away to winners of the hula contests for kids and adults.

”SHOUT!“ The Manatee Players, Thursday, March 24 through Sunday, April 10  flips through the 60s like a musical magazine, tracking five groovy gals as they come of age during those liberating days that made England swing!  Its irresistible blend of hip-swiveling hits, eye-popping fashions and psychedelic dances will make you want to throw your head back and SHOUT! Movie and Martinis, The Village of the Arts, Friday, March 25, 6:00 - 10:00 PM
Festivities begin at 6 PM with live music by Straight Up!, followed by an outdoor screening of the 1963 James Bond classic, From Russia with Love, at 8 PM.  Film goers should bring lawn chairs or blankets and sweaters.  Food, martinis, and other libations are available for purchase.

Families and Kids Together, Tie Dye Demo, Farmers’ Market on Old Main Street,
Saturday, March 26, 11 AM – 1 PM
Keeton’s Office & Art Supply and Palmetto Art Center will demonstrate the art of tie dye. Wow your friends with your 60s t-shirt creations. Be there or be square!

London Calling Film Series, South Florida Museum, Fridays, April 1, 8, & 22 and May 6 & 13, 6 PM
These groundbreaking British films of the 1960s present London’s swinging style, which made its cultural mark on the world.  Beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks are available for purchase starting at 5 PM. Sweaters and reservations are strongly recommended because the theater may be cold and seating is limited. British Invasion! Cultural Celebration, South Florida Museum, Friday, April 15, 6-9 PM Everyone is invited to grab their dancing shoes and nifty threads and groove on down to the hippest party in town. Enjoy live Beatles music by the Glass Onion Band, beat poetry, vintage scooters, and more at this ”Cultural Celebration.“  Tickets include food and entertainment. Beer and wine is available for purchase. 60s Night with the Marauders, McKechnie Field, Saturday, April 16, 7 PM
Residents and visitors should dress in their 60s attire to enjoy 60s-themed music, in-game contests, and a post-game free 60s concert by Yesterdayze.
