TAMPA – Sarasota light-heavyweight Adam Jaco scored an impressive second-round knockout over Ironton, Ohio’s Adam Collins in the main event of One Punch Productions' "Ballroom Brawl" card at the Westshore Doubletree in Tampa on Friday night.
Jaco got off to a fast start in the opening round, battering Collins (7-4, 5 KO's) with hard combinations to the head and body. The attack left Collins noticeably gassed to start the second and Jaco took full advantage, putting him on the deck with a left hook and then re-depositing him on the canvas moments later with a perfect, short right hand.
One more flurry sent Collins to the mat for a third and final time and referee Max Parker Jr. called an end to the fight. Jaco improves to 9-3-1, with 4 KO’s and is looking toward a showdown with local super-middleweight favorite Brian ”Bloodbath“ Chiary in early 2011.
Chiary won a unanimous six-round decision over Terrence Wilson in the co-feature. The Tarpons Springs fan favorite looked sluggish at the onset, but rallied in the fifth, scoring a flash knockdown that put the fight well out of reach for Wilson. Chiary is now 10-6-1 (2).
In other action, Lamar ”Little TNT“ Charlton, 1-1 (1), got his first pro win with an impressive first-round KO over Tampa prospect Enrique Rios. Rios, who was 1-0, seemed to underestimate the explosive Charlton, a former three-time Florida Golden Glove and Sunshine State Game Champion, who’d lost his pro debut by close split-decision.
”They brought me here to be the opponent,“ said the boisterous Charlton. ”I’m nobody’s opponent. If you invite me into your house, I’m gonna eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner. That's what I do."
The Ocala featherweight will be a fighter to watch. In all, promoter Terry Trekas put on another quality evening of local ballroom boxing with a card that harkened back to the club fight heyday of the 1950’s.
Trekas, who also co-promotes former undisputed lightweight world champion, Nate ”the Galaxy Warrior“ Campbell, puts on a regular series of local ballroom cards in addition to world championship events. Campbell returns to the ring November 27 against Walter Estrada at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
