Save Florida Home Rule Update

Posted

SAVE FLORIDA HOME RULE was grateful that Governor DeSantis vetoed SB280 and left vacation rentals in the hands of local governments.  However, the threat of losing local control via consolidation or dissolution of the AMI cities looms large as we await the OPPAGA study, which we may not actually see.

The group has sent 1263 letters to Representative Robinson and Senator Boyd to let them know that voters, residents, property owners, business owners and visitors in Manatee County and beyond oppose consolidation or dissolution of Anna Maria Island cities.

The letters were signed by people who love the quality of life on the Island and feel strongly that Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, and Bradenton Beach must remain intact as cities with their own governance.  They included the following groups:

  • Voter/Island               561
  • Voter/Off Island         331
  • Visitor/Local               118
  • Visitor/ US, Foreign   186
  • Visitor/owner               61

SAVE FLORIDA HOME RULE is requesting the following actions of Representative Robinson and Sentor Boyd:

(1)   Publish the OPPAGA Report for the sake of transparency; (2) Leave our AMI cities intact without consolidation or dissolution; (3) Meet briefly with no more than four "friendly constituents" from our group in early August to discuss the future of the AMI cities.

Dr. Barbara Ehren, Chair
