SCF Hires New Head Volleyball Coach

Posted
BRADENTON – State College of Florida's Athletic Department has both a new Head Coach for its volleyball program and a new Campus Recreation Coordinator.

Angie Byrd was announced as both by the school on February 16. "I am very thankful for this opportunity that Athletic Director Matt Ennis and the SCF family have graciously provided me with. SCF has a reputation of growing great student-athletes and I am happy to be a part of that equation. I am eager to get started and I am confident that this will be a very rewarding experience for my family and SCF," said Byrd in a statement.

Currently in an athletic compliance position at Benedict College in South Carolina, Byrd has extensive experience in volleyball coaching. She was Head Coach of Northwest Shoals Community College's volleyball program, which won four NJCAA Region XXII championships during her time there.

Byrd has also been Head Coach for volleyball at Seminole State College in Oklahoma, getting the program a region championship in her only year there, before heading University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she led the program to the Peach Belt Tournament twice.

SCF Athletic Director Matt Ennis also commented in a press release on Byrd's hire, saying, "We sought out to find an individual who was passionate about student success and was proven at the two-year athletic level. Angelik Byrd is the perfect fit. She has a strong track record of leading nationally competitive volleyball programs and student academic achievement, required for this unique position."
