BRADENTON – The school district is planning a town hall meeting to explain the legislative process at the end of the month.
Students, parents, teachers, administrators and others in the community are invited to the event to learn more about the legislative process before the Legislature convenes in March.
It will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, in the auditorium at Braden River High School, 6545 State Road 70 East, Bradenton.
Special speakers including NFL Hall of Famer and community activist Henry Lawrence. There will be insight from legislative insiders who can explain how the legislature works and discussions of hot-button issues such as oil drilling, gambling and class-size requirements, as well as practical ways for concerned citizens to get involved in the process.
Two of the key Strategic Objectives of the district’s EdVantage Strategic Plan are to teach children in the community to participate in democratic processes and to engage in global outreach.
”The best way we can teach our children to get involved in our democracy is for us to model that behavior and get involved ourselves,“ said School Superintendent Tim McGonegal.
