BRADENTON — Twenty-nine Manatee District migrant students who are seniors, as well as migrant students who are juniors, will receive special recognition during the “29th Annual Migrant Education Awards Ceremony” tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. in the new auditorium at Palmetto High School.
The Migrant Education Awards Ceremony honors students, and families of students, who have participated in the district's migrant academic programs. This year’s special guest speaker will be Henry Lawrence, one of the most decorated athletes ever to come out of Manatee County.
After playing high school football at Lincoln High in Palmetto and Manatee High in Bradenton, Mr. Lawrence went on to play college football at Florida A&M. He was drafted in the first round by the Oakland Raiders in 1974 where he spent 13 seasons.
He was selected to the NFL Pro Bowl two times and won three Super Bowl Championship rings while with
the Raiders. Since his retirement from football, Mr. Lawrence has been an active entrepreneur, philanthropist and motivational speaker in Manatee County and beyond.
