BRADENTON — At Tuesday's meeting, the Manatee School Board voted to expel two Palmetto High students for assaulting school administrators. In other business, an agenda item for a vote to reimburse Board Chair Bob Gause's attorney fees in relation to 'bid rigging allegations' was removed by the chair in a revised agenda on the day of the meeting.

ORDERS OF THE DAY (5:50 p.m.)

6. Approval of the Orders of the Day and Agenda Amendments (Passed 3-1, with Gause dissenting)
Charlie Kennedy proposed eliminating item 37 (adjournment) so that post-board meeting discussion occurs before adjournment. Dave Miner seconded the motion, which passed 3-1, with Gause dissenting.

After the vote, Karen Carpenter argued student and learning, and instruction updates be done near the beginning of the meeting as opposed to the end of it. "One of my concerns about the agenda is that we've really lost our focus on children and learning. I've spoken to several other people about this. A presentation on children and learning came last meeting at 10:45 p.m. for six minutes ... based on all the comments I've heard and my own belief, I think we ought to have student and learning (and instruction) updates at the beginning."
