BRADENTON – This week, the Palmetto CRA announced that multi-platinum rock band Smash Mouth will headline the city's annual 4th of July bash at historic Sutton Park in downtown Palmetto. Each year, the city puts on a free concert featuring a big-name act along with a host of other family-friendly activities leading up to the Green Bridge fireworks display.
"Smash Mouth is a fun, vibrant group, and we are excited that they’re available to perform at our Fourth Fest concert this year," said Palmetto Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant. "We were hoping to find an upbeat group that would help us celebrate our Country’s birthday."
Since bursting onto the scene in 1997 with the hit single Walkin' on the Sun, Smash Mouth has collectively sold more than 10 million albums worldwide. Their many hits have included All-Star, When the Morning Comes, and a cover of the Monkees classic I'm a Believer, which was the theme song for the movie Shrek.
Today, all three co-founding band members–Steve Harwell (lead vocals), Greg Camp (guitar), and Paul DeLisle (bass)–remain friends, as they were the day they first jammed together in their hometown of San Jose, California. Camp is currently not in the band, though DeLisle has said he may come back at some point in the group's future. In addition to long-time keyboardist Michael Klooster, the band now also consists of Sean Hurwitz (guitar) and Jason Sutter (drums).
On Monday, July 4, the park will open at 4 p.m. with an opening performance and Mayor’s Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Smash Mouth at 7 p.m.
