stop animal abandonment

Posted
Thousands of dogs, cats, horses and rabbits are abandoned in "The Redlands," a remote part of the Everglades dumped there by irresponsible owners. Some dogs wait faithfully at that spot, sure their family will return. Others are hit by cars or starve to death. Rescuers find them in dire situations: running in and out of traffic on busy roadways or shivering in the rain. Many need medical attention. It's time to end this madness:http://www.examiner.com/article/is-mdas-inflating-no-kill-numbers-by-ignoring-abandoned-animals

It is illegal to abandon animals. But deep in the Everglades those who do are rarely caught. Rescue groups are working diligently to save as many animals as they can but the practice must stop and those involved in this cruelty must be arrested and prosecuted.

This cruelty is unacceptable. Dade county officials must stop ignoring the animal dumping epidemic and take steps to curb this horrific practice. These innocent animals deserve better than this. We as a nation deserve better than this.
Please save thousands by contacting Mayor Gimenez at mayor@miamidade.gov or (305)-375-5071. Ask him to commit to strong efforts to curb animal abandonment in the Everglades, step up efforts to fund rescuers, and more officers to patrol the area.
