Take stock in children and run

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Take stock in children and lace up those shoes on Sunday for a 10K walk/run along Main Street in Lakewood Ranch.

Superintendent Tim McGonegal will serve as the official Race Marshall when Take Stock in Children of Manatee County holds its annual Fun Run on March 7 at 7:30 a.m.

Spokesman for Manatee County Schools Mike Barber said that this local non-profit organization helps children from low-income families achieve academic and personal success by providing mentoring programs and college scholarships.

He added that the Florida Pre-Paid College Foundation matches scholarship funds raised dollar-for-dollar.
