Tampa Bay Rowdies Sign Stefan Antonijevic to New Contract

ST. PETERSBURG – The Tampa Bay Rowdies have signed defender Stefan Antonijevic to a new contract, the club announced Tuesday. Antonijevic is now signed through the 2016 season, with the Tampa Bay Rowdies holding a club option for 2017. Per club and league policy, further contract details were not disclosed.

Antonijevic made 21 appearances for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2015, logging 1,823 minutes and scoring once. He earned a spot in the North American Soccer League Team of the Week four times in 2015, more than any other player on the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ roster. He also earned the title of Player of the Week in week one of the Spring Season.

”We’re happy Stefan will continue on with the Tampa Bay Rowdies after a he had a good season for us last year,“ Tampa Bay Rowdies Head Coach Stuart Campbell said. ”He started the season very well last year and was unfortunate to pick up one or two little injuries at the start of the Fall Season, but he was still able to end the season pretty well. I’m looking for him to build on it in the coming year.“

Standing at 6-foot-6, Antonijevic is one of the premier set piece defenders in the NASL, as well as a constant threat on offensive set pieces. His lone goal in 2015 came on a Georgi Hristov corner kick April 4 in a 3-1 win over San Antonio.
