The Brothers Karamazov to Begin Three Week Run at FSU's Cook Theatre

BRADENTON – Fyodor Dostoyevsky's final masterpiece novel The Brothers Karamazov is considered one of the great literary masterpieces of the ages. The stage adaptation is a unique instance where such complex narratives have been successfully transferred to the theatrical medium. Area theater fans will have the opportunity to see a very special local production over the next three weeks.

 

"The Brothers Karamazov" runs November 1-20 at the Cook Theatre in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts. The involvement of renowned director Andrei Malaev-Babel, who co-founded the Moscow Chamber Forms Theater, one of the first private professional theater companies in Russia, adds extra promise to the production's success.

 

Malaev-Babel currently serves on the board and as a member of the international faculty for MICHA, Michael Chekhov Association in New York City. His stellar reputation as one of the leading experts on the Stanislavsky/Vakhtangov/Chekhov theater techniques has brought him special engagements and commissions from such prestigious national institutions as The Kennan Institute of The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the Smithsonian Institution and The World Bank.

 

Productions are Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $28 evenings; $27 matinees. Students receive 50 percent off with advance ticket purchase. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Asolo Rep’s box office at the FSU Center for Performing Arts; 941-351-8000. The 2011-2012 season subscriptions and single tickets are on sale now. On November 16 and 20, the theater offers Audio Description services for audience members with hearing challenges.

 

Pay What You Can Tuesdays Series: On Tuesday, November 1, 2011, audience members are invited to attend a production of "The Brothers Karamazov" and pay whatever they feel comfortable paying for their ticket. These special tickets are available on day of performance only.
