copper at a preview opening on Friday.
ArtCenter Manatee’s spokeswoman Peggy Haynes said that the Florida Society of Goldsmiths (FSG) is not just about works of gold.
”They do any kind of metal,“ she said. ”We have a half dozen members who are in the show exhibiting their handcrafted jewelry or wearable art.“
The FSG Web site states that membership is open to all practicing metalsmiths, hobbyists, retail or manufacturing jewelers, and those non-practitioners and collectors who are interested in the art and wish to be contributing members
The FSG show previews at the center in downtown Bradenton on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and it is part of the Manatee Jazz Fest 2010.
Admission into the show is $5 on Friday evening, but for the members of ArtCenter Manatee admission is free. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there is no charge to attend the exhibit’s opening.
”People will be able to find great gifts for Mother’s Day,“ she said. ”I think jewelry is very hot right now; especially handmade jewelry.“
What else is hot is the ArtCenter’s mission to include in its exhibit line-up various art guilds and artist associations.

"Healing Sedation" by Jean Gurucharri is, also, a piece in the Florida Society of Goldsmiths show at

”This helps us to get more art to show and helps to generate more interest within the community,“ Haynes said. ”The community is going to be very excited to be able to purchase something they usually don’t see in the local shops.“
She described a piece created by an exhibiting artist in the show Jean Gurucharri. A wearable fine art jewelry piece designed as a half moon with a pearl – ”Celestial.“
While people peruse the exhibit, the Scott Blum Trio will be performing jazz music selections in recognition of this month’s Jazz Fest activities.
”He really has a background in music as a drummer and percussionist,“ she added. ”He recently performed at the Van Wezel (the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, in Sarasota).“
Haynes said folks are really in for a treat this weekend at the center, and they are also in for a good deal.
”Usually for an art sale, artists create affordable work to appeal to the majority,“ she said. ”On Saturday, people can take all the time they want to enjoy the art and find something unique and one-of-a-kind.“
