This Week in Manatee Governments, August 16-20

Posted

The Palmetto City Commission and Bradenton City Council convene this week, but there are plenty of planning and zoning meetings as well. Remember, much of the actual decision making process happens long before the actual vote. Staff recommendations carry considerable weight and the planning commission's reviews are often the most vital step in the application process since so many approvals end up on consent agendas with little discussed during vote time. Also, though votes aren't taken at work sessions, these meetings set the tone for what the future holds. Finding out about such issues early allows citizens the time to organize in support or opposition to something before it comes to a vote, which often dictates which items get pulled for debate before being voted on.
