Video: Rudy Giuliani Blasts Charlie Crist While Stumping for Gov. Scott

Posted

BRADENTON -- Former NYC Mayor and 2008 Republican Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani laid into Republican-turned-Democrat gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist this week. While on the road campaigning with Rick Scott, Giuliani said, "I never met a person in politics that I disrespect more than Charlie Crist."

In 2008, Giuliani put all of his eggs in the Florida basket, waging an odd strategy that all but ignored other early states, hoping that a victory in the Sunshine State (who'd moved up their primaries) would propel him into contention. His campaign said they were assured of an endorsement from Crist, who was the state's Republican governor at the time.

Crist, who the Mitt Romney camp claimed had said he wouldn't be issuing an endorsement that year, backed eventual nominee John McCain down the stretch and without giving a heads up to other candidates, as is customary. Giuliani was furious and quickly endorsed Senator Marco Rubio in his race against Crist in 2010.

It remains to be seen what if any effect Giuliani's words will have. The former Mayor was embarrassed in his 2008 bid, failing to even turn up on the radar in most states' primaries. Since, he's mostly faded from the national scene, having been relegated to right wing talk and radio shows, where he often makes similarly bold statements.
