Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the Democratic candidate running against Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, said Monday that Floridians confused about the abortion-rights amendment should talk to their doctors about it.
The former South Florida congresswoman also said during a Monday press conference in Tallahassee that she’s not paying attention to polls that place Amendment 4 either below or just at the 60% approval rate it needs to pass. The amendment would undo existing state law banning most abortions after six weeks of gestation.
“Here’s what I would suggest because I worked with doctors. I know where the majority of doctors are on this issue, and it’s to protect the woman’s right and freedom to be able to make her own choice because they know it’s an issue of health care, and it’s central to the well-being of a woman,” Mucarsel-Powell said.
“So, what I would tell Floridians, if they don’t know and they’re confused, ask your doctor, talk to your doctor, consult with your doctor. Talk to people that you trust. Don’t listen to the politicians that are trying to confuse you.”
Rick Scott airs new ad declaring that his support for IVF is ‘personal’ to him
Mucarsel-Powell released two ads against Scott Monday morning. One, titled “Most Extreme,” continues Democrats’ attack on Scott, who opposes Amendment 4. He has gone back and forth about whether he supports a six-week or 15-week abortion ban. He has said Congress should leave those decisions to the states.
“I’m here to tell you that united, when we come together, anything is possible. And so, Florida, we have eight days to protect reproductive freedom,” Mucarsel-Powell said.
Former North Florida U.S. Rep Al Lawson attended Mucarsel-Powell’s event. Lawson called attention to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ lack of campaigning for Scott. Instead, the governor last week toured the state in opposition to amendments 4 and 3, the measure that would allow adult use of recreational marijuana.
“There’s no question about whether she supports issues for women. You know she has been there in the past and she going to be there in the future. We don’t need another guy asleep at the wheel,” Lawson said.
If Scott wins, he wants to become the Republicans’ Senate leader. An Emerson College Polling/The Hill survey published Wednesday shows Scott ahead has a four-point lead, 48%-44%, with 8% undecided. That same poll showed Amendment 4 with 53% support, 30% opposition, and a crucial 17% still undecided.

The headline says it all. Reproductive freedom. If you are not ready to procreate there are many forms of prevention out there to actually prevent pregnancy if you want to be sexually active. Even married couples have access if they feel they can't afford another child. If someone is a victim of **** or incest that is a totally different situation. If the health of the mother is a an issue that is also a special circumstance but just to say you don't want the child is bull. Not with all the means to prevent a pregnancy. Need to educate people better of the ways to prevent pregnancy if they are active and don't want a child. ******** is not a birth control method.

Read what the law actually says - it is both compassionate and caring for both the mother and the child and very well thought out. FL Statute 2024 Chapter 390 http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0300-0399/0390/Sections/0390.0111.html
This amendment protects no one and is dangerous for women.

To say that women use abortion as a form of birth control is cruel and misguided. Women who choose to have an abortion think hard before they take that route. There are women who just cannot afford to have a child and care for it after birth. There are women who want to finish their education before they have a child because they think about the possibilities an education will open in order to be able to provide for a child. And the majority of women who have or are thinking about having an abortion would like you to know that it is none of anyone’s business what they do. It is a decision made between the woman, her doctor and her God.
