Weekend Adventures in Bradenton: December 16-18, 2011

BRADENTON -- It's time once more for a fun-filled holiday weekend in Manatee County! There's another lighted boat parade this weekend, plus MCAT's annual tour of lights and Christmas is coming early to Bridge Street on Bradenton Beach! Grab your Santa hats and ring your sleigh bells, it's time for a Christmas Weekend Adventure in Bradenton!

Manatee County Area Transit will host the popular Tour of Lights on Friday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 17. Riders need only bring a non-perishable food item or unwrapped toy for admission. The food will be donated to local social service networks and the toys will be given to the Toys for Tots program.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 people take part in the tour each year. Seating is limited and will be offered on a first come, first served basis. Passengers should arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. and should be ready for departure at one of two park and ride locations at 6:45 p.m.

The Cortez Yacht Club's 8th Annual Holiday Lighted Boat Parade begins in waters near Mar Vista & Moore’s Stone Crab restaurants on the north end of Longboat Key at dusk (6:00 – 6:30 p.m.). Boats will travel north on ICW to finish at Seafood Shack Marina & Restaurant, 127th St. W., Cortez.

An Awards ceremony will follow parade at the Seafood Shack with $1,000 in cash prizes awarded to the best decorated boats. Grand prize is $500. Boaters interested in participating and competing for prizes are required to pre-register and attend skippers meeting Thursday, December 15th 7:00 p.m. at the Seafood Shack.

Christmas on Bridge Street is a family fun event on Historic Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach on beautiful Anna Maria Island on Saturday, December 17. The event includes a visit from Santa, playing in the snow, fabulous gift basket and holiday wreath raffles, music, holiday performances, special prices at local shops and the Cortez Yacht Club Lighted Boat Parade.
