BRADENTON--A Downtown Diva Derby, a musical tribute to the 60’s, James Bond and martini’s and one more chance to see the Pirates before they leave town for the spring highlight this weekend’s adventures in Bradenton.

 

The popular ”Movie & Martini Night“ returns to the Bradenton Village of the Arts this Friday night. Enjoy four different martinis, food, art and live music from the band Straight Up from 6-8 p.m. at the corner of 12th St./11th Ave. W. The screening of the 1963 James Bond classic From Russia With Love will begin at 8:00 p.m. To reserve a seat on the lawn contact Hector Ferran at (941) 580-8085.

The final Pittsburgh Pirates Spring training game of the season is Sunday at 1:05 p.m. against the Tampa Bay Rays at McKechnie Field. After that the team heads north to begin the regular season. Some tickets are available at press time for Sunday’s game.

Let your inner diva loose at the first ever Downtown Diva Derby on Old Main Street. The event is from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday on Old Main street between Manatee and Fourth Avenues West.

This event is a fund-raiser for the Women’s Resource Center of Manatee and pits teams of participants against one another in a derby-type competition. Teams will compete for prizes in the ”Back Seat Driver“ contest on a non-motorized scooter, tricycle or big wheel through an obstacle course on Old Main Street and ”The Diva Strut“ down Old Main dressed in your best diva gear with a martini in hand.

Once the games are over, all participants and observers will gather and parade down Old Main Street to the stage area for a ”Best Tricked Out Trike“ and ”Diva Costume Contest“. Winners will be selected based on audience applause.

Team events require a $25 pre-registration fee. The parade, competitions and scavenger hunt are free and open to general public.

The Mod Musical SHOUT! opens at the Manatee Players Thursday and plays through April 10. Performances are Tuesday – Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 including facility fee for adults and $11 including facility fee for students.
