Doug Deming & the Jewel Tones play traditional blues, West Coast and Texas swing, and early '50s roots rock. Deming is an American blues and roots guitarist/vocalist, earning a Blues Blast Music Award nomination for Best Blues Band in 2013 and 2019. They reached No. 3 on Billboard’s blues albums chart for their 2018 record "Complicated Mess." Accompanied by bassist Andrew Goham (formerly of the Bottom Feeders), and percussionist Zack Pomerleau (a seasoned musician born and raised in Auburn, Maine), this trio is rockin' rhythm & blues. Joyland Live is located on the Manatee/Sarasota county line off of Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota. The nightclub’s new location boasts a concert stage and sound system, 1800 square feet of dance floor, and live music 3 nights per week. Wednesday evenings are the venue’s blues nights, Fridays they host variety and/or dance bands, and Saturday nights feature country music performances. "Country rock, island style." Singer-songwriter Eric Von is a Nashville recording artist, born and raised in Cortez, Florida. Von started playing guitar and writing music at just twelve years of age and was performing live by fourteen. Eric spent three years in Nashville, playing on Broadway, and writing and recording his second CD. His song, "I Can't Help but Smile" made it to number 64 on the Country Breakout Charts. In 2007, Von was named the Colgate Country Showdown winner for Central Florida, and advanced to secure the title of Colgate Country Showdown winner for the State of Florida that same year. In 2008, he was named the winner of Kenny Chesney’s Next Big Star of the Tampa Bay Area. No cover.

This Saturday, Big Top Brewing and Grateful Walker Productions present "A Day of Dead and Phish." The event will feature two of the Tampa Bay region's top tribute bands–Dead Set Florida, a Grateful Dead tribute band, and Antelope, a Phish tribute band. The bands are scheduled to perform two full sets each.

The Applebutter Express

The Applebutter Express is a band with a national following, but their beginnings can be traced right back here to Bradenton, Florida. The group's founding members, Shannon and Kyle Biss, met in 2004 while Kyle was working at a local record shop. In 2010, then-bass player Kyle picked up a ukulele with the intention of learning songs to sing and harmonize with girlfriend Shannon for fun. From there the pair moved on to live performances. In no time the eclectic, tuneful duo–now known as The Applebutter Express–was the talk of Tampa.
The band has grown to include members Zach Rogers (bass) in 2015, and newest member Jason Baker (fiddle) in 2020. The group has performed numerous live shows since its beginnings and has performed extensively on the festival circuits. Cover is $5.

Blues to Blackstreet, fronted by female vocalist and guitarist June Eysel, offers wide-ranging appeal to their audiences. As their name denotes, their style is eclectic, from one end of the genre spectrum to the other–with a little bit of everything in-between. The band is known for its ever-diverse blend of jazz and soul with performances of rock, reggae, blues, and pop. The sultry vocal stylings of Eysel complement the band’s broad portfolio. Memphis Rub Band returns to 88 Live Piano Bar this Sunday. Memphis Rub Band is a 4-piece band from the Sarasota/Bradenton area performing a blend of blues, rock, funk, and R&B. Starring Gary Drouin on guitar, Scott Matzke on bass and vocals, Dan Ryan on keys, and David Wells on drums/vocals, they perform both covers and original music. In 2018, Memphis Rub released their first album "Taste"and several tracks from the album have been played on area radio stations WMNF and WSLR, including "Red Tide Blues."No cover.

Join James Varnado and Johnny Barker as they host Cottonmouth’s Sunday "Jazz and Blues Open Jam." Born in New Orleans, James Varnado relocated to Florida’s Gulf Coast in 2006. The locally known and respected drummer has years of performances under his belt. Varnado has performed and toured with the likes of George Porter Jr (The Meters), Charmaine Neville (Neville Bros Family), Tab Benoit, Mem Shannon Blues Band, Jon Cleary, Dickey Betts (of the Allman Brothers), The Dixie Cups (Doo Wop), and has shared the stage with various local bands.
Johnny Barker and Sergae Glushenkov join Varnado for this eclectic rotating jazzy blues jam. Barker is a bassist and the founding member of "The JBP," also known as The Johnny Barker Project. Sergae Glushenkov is a Ukrainian-born pianist who currently serves as band director at Southside Elementary school.
The trio offers audiences something a bit more like a variety show, leading the jam with opening songs, and welcoming a rotation of other talented local guest musicians to join the stage. A jam session guaranteed to bring sound surprises you won’t hear anywhere else. No cover.
