Former Teachers Accuse Former Principal of Sexual Harassment

Posted
BRADENTON – The former principal at Manatee School of Arts and Sciences has been accused in a lawsuit filed by three women who worked there of sexual harassment and discrimination.

The former employees of the public charter school filed suit against the school, its former principal Richard Ramsay, the school’s registrar, Linda Brand, as well as Jim Brand, the president of its governing board.

The former employees have accused Ramsay of abuse of power, and the other parties of failing to take action against him. They described an environment in which he was controlling and belittling, making inappropriate comments and disregarding personal boundaries.

The employees, Geena Gregory, Morgan Lane, and Dao Tran, were all fired by Ramsay in 2018. The suit alleges the dismissals were retaliatory and shows supposed text messages between the principal and teachers. The school has defended the firings as "based on legitimate, non-discriminatory, non-retaliatory reasons."

Ramsay was later suspended by the school and ultimately left his position as principal. The lawsuit was filed last June. A hearing scheduled to take place this week was postponed. There have been two motions made to dismiss the case.
