Right to Clean Water Amendment

Posted
The Florida Rights of Nature Network has a petition drive going on now until this November. The aim is to gather enough signatures (900,000) throughout the state in order to put the waterways on the ballot next year. The vote will be to amend the Florida Constitution to say that the citizens of Florida have a right to clean and healthy water (details of the amendment are on the website).
Ballot Summary: Right to Clean and Healthy Waters This amendment creates a fundamental right to clean and healthy waters. The amendment may be used to sue State executive agencies for harm or threatened harm to Florida’s waters, which include aquatic ecosystems.

This amendment defines terms, identifies affected constitutional provisions in Article IV governing the executive branch, provides for civil action enforcement, allows attorney and expert witness fees to prevailing plaintiffs, and provides equitable remedies including restoration of waters.

You must print the petition, complete and sign the "Voter’s Information“ section, then mail it to the address listed on the petition - in Ft. Myers. It takes just two minutes to get this done for Florida!
