23rd SMBC Gulf Coast Cycle Fest Returns This Weekend

LAKEWOOD RANCH – Do you ride a bike? Do you need a challenge, just to start riding or to ride further? Whether you're an ardent enthusiast or willful beginner, the Sarasota Manatee Bicycle Club has something for you at its 23rd annual Gulf Coast Cycle Fest, Sunday, November 3 on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch.

A choice of four routes of different lengths will be offered to riders: 100 miles, 62 miles, 35 miles and 15 miles. Each route features rest stops with plenty of food and drink provided. The short 15-mile route is designed to be safe and enjoyable, making it suitable for young families. The 100, 62 and 35 mile routes will challenge riders at all levels! Rides begin at 7:30 a.m. with staggered starts beginning with the 100-mile riders.

SMBC is not about riding fast or racing bikes. The local cycling club aims to promote safe and enjoyable cycling.  SMBC has over 500 members, including dozens who volunteer to make this event a good time for all. Each year, nearly 600 participants, visitors and cycling enthusiasts attend this premier cycling event.

Main Street will be closed to traffic on the Sunday morning. The Street will feature stalls of cycling equipment, with massage and a photographer to record your ride.

There will be “SAG” support throughout to help if you have a problem with your bike. There will be a healthy breakfast and an outstanding lunch provided by the Polo Grill.  All this is included in the entry fee of $40 per rider, with a $5 discount for each additional rider in the same household.

The first 500 participants registered will be given high-quality t-shirts and information packs in reusable bags. Supporters and friends can enjoy the shops, stalls, cycles and accessories and find out more about cycling.  Proceeds go to charities and to promote cycling safety in our communities.
