BRADENTON – A Clearwater company is suing home furnishing giant Pier 1 Imports for copyright infringement. Fourstar Group USA says that a "Solar Dancing Chick" sold at Pier 1 violates copyright on its own “Chick Solar.”
According to Bloomberg News, Fourstar claims the mold used to create its product was also used to make the Pier 1 product, but that the company has not licensed Fourstar's product, or were otherwise authorized to do so.
Fourstar Group is a product design company started in 1975. It now has 12 locations around the world.
The company is nonetheless dwarfed by Pier 1 Imports, which employs more than 17,000 workers and does nearly $2 billion in annual sales.
