BRADENTON – Kaleidoscope, Once Upon a Time ... is a group of four unique theatrical performances that celebrate the voice and creative expression of people with disabilities within our community. Borrowing from Asolo Rep’s mainstage theme of “The American Character,” this season’s Kaleidoscope artists investigate the art of storytelling with an emphasis on creating characters.
Each performance begins with the opening line, “Once upon a time…,” and a delightful storytelling journey takes flight. On Monday night, you can catch this unique event for free!
The Kaleidoscope program is realized through a collaborative partnership between social service organizations and schools. This season’s partners include Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities, Bayshore High School, Easter Seals of Southwest Florida, and Oak Park School.
Through the performing arts, the Kaleidoscope program encourages each artist to bring his or her own distinct voice and talents to the stage. By encouraging expression of the individual in a safe and supportive place, each artist learns to function independently and as a part of a larger ensemble, and develops their self-confidence and pride.
The public is invited to attend and tickets are free. Please contact Asolo Rep at 941-351-8000 or 800-361-8388 to reserve tickets, or stop by the Asolo Repertory Theatre Box Office and pick them up in person.
The performance will take place Monday, December 3, 2012 at 6 p.m. A post-performance reception will follow in the lobby of the theatre. Mertz Theatre at the Florida State University Center for the Performing Arts is located at 5555 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
