Ballard Upsets Bellamy in District 2 County Commission Race

Posted
PALMETTO – Amanda Ballard became the first Republican to ever win the Manatee County Commission District 2 seat after defeating first-term incumbent Democrat Reggie Bellamy in a 17-point landslide.

Ballard is a senior attorney with Children’s Legal Services and is heavily involved in the local foster care system. She was able to route Bellamy, despite a significant fundraising disadvantage in a district that was recently redrawn in a manner that was more friendly to Republicans.

Republicans Mike Rahn and Jason Bearden, who successfully primaried incumbent Republicans Misty Servia and Carol Whitmore, respectively, faced only write-in opposition on Tuesday. Ballard's win gives Republicans complete control of the seven-member board.
