BRADENTON – The Bay Life Preservers, a group organized in opposition of the proposed marina/hotel addition to the controversial Long Bar Pointe development is organizing a boat brigade, where flotillas full of concerned citizens will turn out to show their support for protecting Sarasota Bay from the impact of such a project. The event will take place July 20, from 2-4 p.m off Marker 17 in NE Sarasota Bay.
Originally scheduled for the week prior, the group said that it learned that the date coincided with the DeSoto Fishing Tournament, whose master anglers wanted to join the protest. "Long Bar Pointe is their fishing ground and they deserve all the right of access they need to enjoy their sport," said a spokesperson for the group. "Unlike Big Development, we respect fishermen."
