Bemis Smith Bradenton

BRADENTON – Bemis Smith, the City Council’s representative of Bradenton’s fourth ward, was chosen by fellow council members to serve as the City’s vice mayor for 2014.

The Council usually selects a new vice mayor during the first meeting of each year. Vice Mayor Smith’s appointment was approved at the Jan. 8 meeting. He was nominated by Councilman Gene Gallo, the outgoing vice mayor.

According to the City Charter, the vice mayor has the authority to serve in the role of mayor if the mayor is unable to.

Vice Mayor Smith was first elected to the City Council in November 2001.
