Betty Jo Hoyne, 87, of Bradenton, Florida, peacefully passed away on July 11, 2024. Betty was born on March 14, 1937, in Canadian, Texas. She moved to Amarillo as a teenager and graduated Amarillo High School. Out of high school, she worked at Amarillo Air Force Base where she met and married Ed Hoyne. One year later they celebrated the birth of their first son, Edward Michael (Mike) and six years later, they celebrated the birth of their second son, Richard William (Ricky). In 1983, they became the proud grandparents of Stephanie Lynn. If you knew Betty, you knew her life revolved around her family and she loved being MeMaw to Steph.

Betty really enjoyed the summer family vacations to Wisconsin each year and the several trips to Las Vegas with friends. She also enjoyed camping at area lakes with Ed and their two young boys. In her 30's, Betty was quite the bowler, participating in several leagues and winning numerous trophies and awards.

Betty worked at Northwest Texas Hospital for 26 years. Retiring early, she and Ed relocated to a lake house in east Texas. She enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, yardwork and relaxing evenings on the lake. After 46 years of marriage, in 2003, Ed passed away and it was at that time Betty moved back to Amarillo. She remained in Amarillo until her eldest son, Mike, passed away in 2012. Shortly thereafter she moved to Bradenton, Florida to be around her son, Rick. Of all the places Betty had lived, she thought of Amarillo as home.

Betty is survived by her son, Rick (Lorna) Hoyne of Bradenton, Florida, and her granddaughter Stephanie (former husband, Zech) Tabor of Amarillo, Texas. Three half-brothers, Bob, Dean and Johnny.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Hoyne (66) and her son, Mike Hoyne (55) both of Amarillo, Texas. A sister, Wanda (79) of Ohio and a brother, Jim (81) of Nevada.

Betty, Mom and MeMaw will be sorely missed but we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and in the arms of the Lord.

To honor Betty's wishes, there will be no funeral services.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Betty may be made to St. Jude (https://www.stjude.org) or the ASPCA (https://secure.aspca.org). Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements.
