BOCC Approves Tentative Budget for Manatee County

Posted

BRADENTON — On Thursday night, the Manatee County Commission tentatively approved a 2014-15 budget of $540.8 million. There is no increase in the property tax rate in the proposed budget, though the total amount is 2 percent higher as a result of increased values.

The millage rate for taxpayers in unincorporated Manatee County would be set at 7.0435. Municipal residents would see a millage of 6.4326. One mil equals $1 for every $1,000 in taxable property value.

The vote to approve the budget will be just after the final public hearing scheduled for September 18 at 6 p.m. in the commission chambers on the first floor of the County Administrative Building.

Though taxable property values are recovering, they remain below their 2007 peak. County officials project that they will still need to subsidize the annual budget with county reserve funds for three more years.
