On July 07, 2013, at 10:50 p.m., Officer Carl Jones was dispatched to a verbal dispute, which involved an armed subject. Upon arrival, Officer Jones observed a subject matching the suspect’s description attempting to start a motorcycle.

Due to prior encounters with the subject, Officer Jones was able to positively identify the subject by the tattoos on his left upper arm. Officer Jones announced his presence, and gave verbal commands to the subject. The subject did not comply with the verbal commands and refused to show his hands. Officer Jones was then able to grab a hold of the subject and escort him to the ground, while attempting to put the subject into handcuffs, he refused to give officers his right hand.

The subject was placed into custody, and Officer Jones discovered a Glock Model 23 (.40 Caliber) in the subject’s front waistband. Additionally, the subject was wearing a backpack that contained (4) ammunition cartridges. The subject was charged with Possession of a Concealed Firearm.

Officer Jones’ actions that evening likely prevented a grave incident from occurring, and he was able to perform this task without injury to the suspect or himself. Officer Jones is a true asset to the City of Bradenton Police Department, and is deserving of the title of “Officer of the Month.”
