Bradenton Assisted Living Facility Evacuated Following Structural Collapse

Posted

BRADENTON — Manatee County Public Safety and EMS, in coordination with the Bradenton Fire Department and other regional partners, are assisting with the evacuation and relocation of approximately 157 residents from Aviata at Bradenton Villas following a significant structural collapse at the facility.

Transportation and alternate accommodations are being arranged for the affected residents. Due to the number of individuals requiring relocation, the response includes assistance from regional partners in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, which are providing additional transportation resources, including ambulances and accessible transit vehicles.

"This is a challenging situation, and our hearts are with the residents and their families," said Bradenton Mayor Gene Brown. "We are working closely with Manatee County and all regional partners to ensure everyone is safe, supported, and cared for throughout this evacuation."

At this time, no injuries were reported, and no additional emergency response units have been requested. Public safety personnel and facility representatives continue to coordinate the relocation process.

First glad to hear all the residents were removed without any injuries. A job well done by ALL 1st responder agencies in Manatee County and outside resources from neighboring counties that were called. A special shout out of kudos goes to the leadership and each Manatee County EMS employee for handling this local MCI. Summoning additional transports resources shows the community that MCEMS is a well prepared and equipped to handle incidents of this nature. Speaking on equipped, many in our community were raising questions when MCEMS purchased units called RAPTOR (Rapid Activation Patient Treatment or Rehab). These units have been used on many structure fires, haz-mat and other prolonged incidents for Rehab of staff. These units were designed for MCIs of this natured and were used to assist the relocationof the patients. Glad our community and MCEMS is so well prepared, equipped and trained for these types of calls.

How could this type of facility be allowed to get into a condition that would precipitate such a structural collapse.
