Bradenton City Council Agenda Results: October 23, 2013

BRADENTON - At a short evening meeting Wednesday, the Bradenton City Council held no public hearings nor major discussions. Through the consent agenda, the council passed some revisions to the city's contract with the ACSFME union representing city workers. In other business, three residents of Bradenton Village Apartments expressed grievances during citizen comments, at they said were unusual discrepancies in their month-to-month water and sewage bills.

i) AFSCME Union Contract.

Revisions to the contract between the city and the AFSCME Union were made. Among the changes made are: 

  • That the city will now send out a copy of any agenda items pertaining to the contracting out of bargaining unit work, and all available material information about said contracting out, before said items are voted upon by the city council;
  • That the city will provide the union with 45 days of notice, and an opportunity to discuss different options with the city, in the event that any contracting out of bargaining unit will result in the lay off of a union employee;
  • "The City agrees that any temporary worker who has been working with the city, either as a city temp, or through a temp agency, will be hired into a regular city position within 6 months, so long as there is a budgeted, vacant position available, and that the employee has performed satisfactorily during his temp employment". 
  • Another revision included changes to how long verbal and written warnings, suspensions and other disciplinary actions may be considered when determining new discliplines for a union employee.
