BRADENTON – At Wednesday's meeting, the Bradenton City Council passed an ordinance that amends parts of the pension system for the city police department. In other business, a first reading of an ordinance to properly format city traffic violations for the reading of the Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles was also passed.

After the item was separated from the consent agenda posthaste, Volker Reiss of the city's community services and code compliance spoke at the dais to explain that the boundaries of Enterprise Zone had to be changed as a result of the recent census.

Vice Mayor Gene Gallo urged people to see Manatee High's football team on Friday night. "All the years I've watched Manatee football, this has got to be the greatest MHS football team I've seen," he said.
Councilman Gene Brown echoed Gallo's comments, and thanked police and firefighters for their efforts.
Councilman Patrick Roff gave a personal observation of the Bradenton downtown area, saying that he has heard from a restaurant owner that recently, "the quality of people coming to apply to work there are phenomenal ... they're much more professional than (the owner) has seen in his previous restaurant locations."
Councilman Bemis Smith commented on looking for ways to strengthen city noise ordinance laws, saying that the vibration and noise from vehicles moving through downtown Bradenton has been much louder than in recently traveled cities such as downtown Chicago.
Councilman Robert Byrd noted the anniversary of September 11, 2001, and alo said that many groups in the city have recently rallied against community violence in response to recent violent crimes in the area.
