Bradenton hires new building official

BRADENTON - A new building official starts work Tuesday for the city, public information officer Tim McCann said in a press release Monday.

William Whitelock, who has been with the town of Melbourne Beach since 2006, will join the Bradenton Planning and Community Development Department on Tuesday. He previously served as Melbourne Beach's building official, flood plain manager, fire safety inspector and code enforcement official.

The city's building official manages the city's Division of Buildings and Inspections and administers the permitting and inspection program, in addition to serving as technical and administrative authority over the interpretation, applicability and enforcement of city building inspections, plans review, permitting and ensuring compliance with the Florida Building Code.

Whitelock is certified as a State of Florida Building Code Administrator, Flood Plain Manager, Code Enforcement Official, Storm Water Inspector and Fire Safety Inspector.
