BRADENTON--Bradenton Marauders catchers Tony Sanchez and Eric Fryer have been invited to the Pittsburgh Pirates spring training camp beginning in February. Both players will be non-roster invitees. For Sanchez, it will be his second major league spring training and the first for Fryer.
Tony Sanchez was the Pirates number one draft choice in 2009, going fourth overall out of Boston College. He hit .314 with four homeruns and 35 RBI with the Marauders last year despite missing half the season after suffering a broken jaw from a wild pitch in June. Sanchez recently played winter ball in the Arizona Fall League.
Eric Fryer was acquired by the Pirates organization from the New York Yankees in exchange for Eric Hinske in 2009. He hit .300 with eight homeruns and 48 RBI for the Marauders in 2010.
Former Marauders Jeff Locke and Bryan Morris along with Kyle McPherson will also be in camp as members of the 40-Man roster. Pitcher Nathan Adcock will be at the Kansas City Royals spring training camp.
Pirates pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in Bradenton on February 13.
