Bradenton Shuts Out Daytona

BRADENTON – Orlando Castro (W, 3-2) pitched the Marauders (21-24) to a 3-0 win over the Daytona Cubs (15-26) on Tuesday night at McKechnie Field. Castro fired 6 2/3 innings, surrendering four hits but no walks while collecting six strikeouts.

Bradenton scored a single run in three separate innings. Eric Wood led off the third inning with a single to center field and was replaced at first base by Taylor Lewis, who grounded into a fielder’s choice to second base. Lewis stole second and went to third on a ground out by Walker Gourley, then scored when Jeff Roy’s ground ball to shortstop was booted.

The Marauders tallied again in the fourth. Jonathan Schwind followed Josh Bell’s two-out walk with a single to center off Michael Jensen (L, 2-2), sending Bell to third. Bell scored on a passed ball by Chadd Krist. Bell drove in the third Bradenton run in the sixth inning with a fielder’s choice ground ball to shortstop to bring home Roy.

Josh Smith collected a seven-out save for the Marauders. The win was Bradenton’s fifth shutout victory of the year. Bradenton was outhit 5-3 in the game.

Game two of the series is at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Jason Creasy will start for the Marauders.
