Bradenton to Consider Limiting After Midnight Alcohol Sales

Posted

BRADENTON — On Wednesday, the Bradenton City Council held a first reading that would amend a city ordinance to limit the sale of alcohol past midnight.

The city says the proposed policy is in response to an increase in criminal activity and violence occurring after midnight. The ordinance would prohibit the selling and serving of alcohol between midnight and closing (2:30 a.m.).

Establishments would be able to remain open past midnight if they purchase and are granted After Midnight Permits from the city. The second reading, along with the public hearing, is planned for the Aug. 14 city council meeting at Bradenton City Hall.

Yep all those high dollar condo's coming in downtown don't want to upset them. You didn't hear any of this BS when downtown was a ghost town and the city wanted more eating. drinking establishments with open bar until 2am. Well looks like a 6 pack and a trip to the skate-park to top off the evening....... WTF

Money talks... at least that's what it seems like. Note the city will make exceptions for businesses willing to fork over additional money to the city fathers coffers - exemptions for money! That is so like playing favorites... squeezing the little guys. No equality for businesses or citizens unless the "graft" is paid!

Gee, didn't we try that in the 1920s?

Closing the bars early will decrease night-time criminal activity and violence. And how will the city keep the stats on that?

This ordinance will restrict any bar within city limits not just downtown. I think it is just a money-grab by forcing them to apply for an after midnight permit.
