Bradenton’s Finest and Bravest Coming to LECOM Park For Charity Softball Game

Posted

Balls will be flying around LECOM Park on Thursday, November 5.

Every bit of balls being batted and bases being rounded at the Pittsburgh Pirates’ spring training home is a reminder that spring baseball is on its way.

You want to support a good cause? Bring $10 to the LECOM box office for the 6:30 p.m. charity softball game (gates open at 6 p.m.) dubbed Boots vs. Badges. The challenge between the Bradenton Police Department and Bradenton Fire Department will benefit charities supporting both departments.

Yes, MLB’s postseason remains in full swing, but by October 31st (at the latest), baseball will go into hibernation. Who doesn’t miss coming out for Bradenton Marauders games? It will be nearly two full months since a Florida State League game has been played when the softball game is played.

“LECOM Park has always been a place where our community can come together, and we’re excited to host an evening that brings two of Bradenton’s finest groups of public servants together for some fun competition,” said Jeff Podobnik, Vice President of Florida and Dominican Republic Operations for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

This battle on the bases also gives our community heroes, and their families, an opportunity to have a relaxing night out. No long shifts, at least for one night, no separation from their loved ones, and most importantly – no stress. The fine men and women who protect Bradenton have earned a fun few hours of laughs and exercise.

“We’re grateful to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders for their steadfast support of our local first responders. Boots vs. Badges is a great opportunity to bring our departments and community together in support of a good cause while enjoying some friendly competition on the field. We’re proud to be part of it and look forward to a great event,” said Bradenton Police Chief Josh Cramer.

In case of an emergency, just as Bradenton citizens are safe and their property is well protected by police and fire departments, so is Pirate City and LECOM Park. Supporting this game and the charities police and fire hold near and dear should be circled on calendars as a reminder to attend.

Just being back in the ballpark and planted in your favorite seat, even during a fall evening, must be enough to make this a favored event.

“We’re excited to see this event return and give our community another opportunity to come together, have some fun and support causes that mean a lot to our Police and Fire departments. I hope everyone comes out to cheer them on and enjoy a great night at LECOM Park,” said Bradenton Mayor Gene Brown.
