Brunch for the Bay Returns Next Month

Posted
SNEAD ISLAND – Tickets are now available for the annual Brunch for the Bay fundraiser which will take place Saturday, October 15 at the Bradenton Yacht Club. Proceeds benefit Suncoast Waterkeeper.

This year's event will celebrate 50 years of the Clean Water Act by looking back at the organization's successes under the law while looking ahead at some immediate challenges.

The Clean Water Act allows Suncoast Waterkeeper to bring citizens suits against polluters, bringing violators to federal court. Suncoast Waterkeeper has done just that and has won. Hear Justin Bloom, founder of Suncoast Waterkeeper, talk about the importance of these cases to restoring the bay and the organization's plans to continue to enforce pollution laws on the sun coast for the benefit of all.

Does the Clean Water Act protect you from prescription drugs? How many prescription drugs make their way into Florida fish? You might be shocked to hear what Ph.D. candidate Nick Castillo and the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust has found.

We know about plastics in our water, but what about the forever chemicals PFAS? Have they been found locally? If so, where and what does it mean for the health of our waters? Hear what University of Florida's Assistant Professor Dr. John Bowden found when he looked for PFAS in our local waters.

Guests can purchase tickets here.
