Business and government: The week ahead

After last week's holiday-shortened lull from the cares of government, it's a busy week for local governments, with several meetings on tap.

 

School Board

The Manatee County School Board will hold a workshop at 5:45 p.m. on its hiring and firing practices. The meeting is at the district's headquarters, 215 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

 

Manatee County Commission

The County Commission will be in session on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., though they sometimes finish before that time. Among the items on the agenda is TBARTA Funding, the Ninth Street East Road Improvement Project, the purchase of four hybrid diesel-electric buses, a 10 a.m. time certain presentation on the Ringling International Arts Festival, the CAPER public hearing and the 2010 legislative platform. The commission will meet at the chambers in the Manatee County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

 

Commissioners have a joint work session with law enforcement chiefs on Wednesday from 8:15 to 10 a.m. at the Bradenton Country Club, 4646 Ninth Ave. W., in Bradenton.

 

On Thursday, commissioners will conduct the land use meeting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the commission chambers.

 

Bradenton City Council

The City Council is tentatively scheduled to hold a workshop at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 101 Old Main St., Bradenton.

 

Palmetto

The only Palmetto meeting this week is a community workshop on the revised city charter on Thursday in the City Commission chambers at City Hall, 516 Eighth Ave. W., Palmetto.

 

Other government meetings

  • The Value Adjustment Board Special Magistrate meets on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fountain Conference Room at the Judicial Center.

  • The Bradenton Tree and Land Preservation Board meets at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bradenton City Hall in the Planning Conference Room.
