Candidate Profile: Sheldon Jones

Posted
Sheldon Jones is one of three candidates vying for the Palmetto City Commission at-large seat on this year's ballot.

Jones is a fourth-generation Palmetto native who proudly served the United States Army, attaining the rank of sergeant before his honorable discharge.

Jones, and his wife of 20 years, Tonya, have four children and are foster parents to three additional children who have been in their care for five years.

Jones is currently employed by the United States Postal Service, having served as a mailman for the past 17 years, where he also served on the USPS' Diversity Committee and then went on to become the Union Representative.

Jones is also the current Coordinator at Stamp Out the Hungry, a charitable initiative conducted by the National Association of Letter Carriers in the United States in an effort to make significant donations of food to organizations serving needy persons.

Jones says that representing people in a community-based setting, helping them, and achieving results are things he has always had a passion for. He says he has "always firmly believed that to make positive changes in this world, the effort must be put forth by one's own hands, with hard and honest work."

Jones faces Matt Kezar and Alice Kaddats in the three-way nonpartisan race.
