BRADENTON – The federal government shutdown may impact people’s outdoor recreation plans in Florida if they are destined for federal parks and wildlife refuges. The Fall Classic Fishing Tournament to benefit Sarasota Christian School takes place Oct. 4-5. The red fish, snook and trout catch-and-release tourney awards a number of prizes. Authorities are encouraging diving enthusiasts to catch non-native lionfish if they see them roaming around area reefs.

The forecast through the upcoming weekend will depend highly on an area of low pressure emerging into the southern Gulf of Mexico this morning...and the potential for some tropical development. The strength and organization of this system will influence the winds and any potential swell migrating through the eastern Gulf. As a result the forecast uncertainty is higher than normal during the first several days...and mariners are urged to monitor the latest forecast closely before making plans to boat on the Gulf through the upcoming weekend.
