Cardboard Challenge Comes to Ag Museum Oct. 4

Posted

PALMETTO — Families are invited to the Cardboard Challenge, a free event at the Manatee County Agricultural Museum in the Palmetto Historical Park on Saturday, October 4, from 1 to 3:30 PM.  What's a cardboard challenge? Families design and build things out of cardboard, recycled materials, craft supplies, and imagination, inspired by prompts that will be posted at each station.

This event will foster ingenuity, inventiveness, resourcefulness, and more as participants engage in creative play. All materials will be provided; however, families may bring their own cardboard, craft, and tape supplies if desired. In addition, children can visit the Little Free Library at the Ag Museum and the ELC Book Nook in the Carnegie Library to select a book to take home.

The event is co-hosted by the Manatee County Agricultural Museum, the Palmetto Historical Park, and Soar in 4 Manatee. The Global Cardboard Challenge is an annual initiative of Imagination.org. Inspired by the short film, 'Caine's Arcade,' the Cardboard Challenge is a worldwide celebration of child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it.

The Ag Museum, located at 515 10th Ave. West in Palmetto, is accepting clean cardboard boxes, gift wrap, paper towel rolls, paper cups and plates, cereal boxes, and miscellaneous craft items through October 2, during open hours (10 AM to 4 PM). For more information, call 941-721-2034.
