Both starting pitchers were sharp on the mound. Ryan Sherriff tossed seven innings, surrendering only a solo home run to Jacob Stallings in the second. Zack Dodson was just as good for Bradenton, hurling six innings and not allowing a run until a two-out single by Jacob Wilson plated Gil in the bottom of the sixth.
The Marauders bullpen stifled the Cardinals until the 12th. Kirk Singer pitched a perfect seventh inning, Robby Rowland added a scoreless eighth, and Orlando Castro pitched the ninth and 10th without allowing a runner.
Stallings led the Marauders offensively, adding a double to go with his sixth homer of the season. Stetson Allie also hit a double, while Benji Gonzalez went 2-for-5.
Game two of the series is Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Adrian Sampson will start for the Marauders, while Sam Gaviglio is on the hill for the Cardinals. The game will be broadcast online at www.BradentonMarauders.com.
