Carl Samuel "Sam" Short, 71, of Bradenton, FL, passed away on September 12, 2024. He was a devoted husband, father, and papa who served his country, community, and church.

Sam was born on April 20, 1953, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, to parents Donald and Lucille (Griffin) Short. He grew up with three brothers and his childhood instilled a love for his family.

After graduating from Southeast High School, he enlisted in the Army and served from September 17, 1971 – September 10, 1974. He received an Honorable Discharge and then obtained his associate's degree at Manatee Community College. Sam decided to re-enlist in the Army, serving from January 3, 1977 - April 28, 1981, leaving as a Specialist 4th Class with an Honorable Medical Discharge. He served proudly in Pennsylvania, Texas, Germany, and Greece.

Sam started working at the US Postal Service Office in 1985 and retired in 2020 after 35 years of service.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lucille (Griffin) Short, and his brother, David William Short. He is survived by his loving wife, Terry; his son, Aaron (Kacie); three grandchildren, Charlotte, Zachary, and McKenzie; his brothers, Donald (Susan), Ronald (Vicki); brother-in-law, Kim (Cinde); several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He will be remembered for his love for his entire family as well as his beautiful orchid garden.

Funeral Service will be at 2 PM, Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street, Bradenton, FL 34209, where visitation will begin at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (https://www.t2t.org), a cause close to Sam's heart.
