Central Library Extends Lincoln Exhibition

BRADENTON – The Manatee County Central Library has announced a week-long extension of Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War, a traveling exhibition for libraries. The exhibition, previously set to close on September 4, has been extended by a week and will be open to the public until the end of day on Thursday, September 11, 2014.

In addition to the exhibit, there are three tie-in programs remaining in the month-long series of Lincoln-themed presentations.

On Monday, August 25, Dr. John Belohlavek presents Did Lincoln Abuse the Powers of the Presidency? at at 6:00 p.m.

On Saturday, August 30, the 97th Regimental String Band presents A Musical Time Machine: Civil War Soldier  at 2:00 p.m. The entertaining program is filled with patriotic, comic, and sentimental songs from both sides of the Civil War.

The final program in the series will be Phaedra Rehorn and Melissa Porter of the Manatee Village Historical Park presenting Spirit Voices from Old Manatee on Wednesday, September 3 at 6:00 p.m.

Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War, a traveling exhibition for libraries, was organized by the National Constitution Center and the American Library Association Public Programs Office. It is based on an exhibition of the same name developed by the National Constitution Center. The traveling exhibition has been made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The exhibit is free and open to all. Seating for special events will be available on a first come, first serve basis. There is no cost to attend any of the special events.
