PORT CHARLOTTE – Charlotte (25-23) led wire-to-wire en route to a 9-5 win over the Marauders at Charlotte Sports Park on Saturday Night. The Stone Crabs got seven strong innings from Reinaldo Lopez (W, 3-2) in his fourth start against the Marauders.

John Kuchno (L, 3-4) surrendered a leadoff home run in the first inning to Andrew Toles. Charlotte proceeded to score twice more in the inning, with both runs coming across on a two-RBI single by Max Tissenbaum to give Charlotte a 3-0 lead. Tissenbaum drove in three runs in the game.

Bradenton’s only run against Lopez was a solo home run by Taylor Lewis in the top of the third. The homer was the first of the season for Lewis, and trimmed the deficit to 3-1.

The Stone Crabs chases Kuchno after 2 2/3. Josh Sale drove in a run with a one-out double in the third inning, then scored himself when Hector Guevara doubled to left field. Pat Ludwig replaced Kuchno and finished the inning. Charlotte struck for four runs against Ludwig in the fifth inning, capped by Tommy Coyle’s three-run home run to put the Stone Crabs up 9-1.

The Marauders rallied against Ely Echarry in the eighth, plating four runs. Josh Bell and Jin-De Jhang each had RBI-doubles and scored a run in the frame. Lewis lined out to end the inning with the Marauders down 9-5. Bradenton got the tying run to the on deck circle in the ninth, but did not score.

The series ends in Bradenton tomorrow with a 1:00 game at McKechnie Field. Gates open at noon. Orlando Castro will start for Bradenton against Charlotte lefty Bruedlin Suero.
