In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
We invite the community to attend the Manatee County Law Enforcement Memorial service at the Manatee County courthouse on Thursday, May 15, at 9 a.m. The service, presented by Manatee FOP Lodge 70, honors fallen law enforcement officers from Manatee County.
Also this week, Team Bradenton, an all-volunteer group of Bradenton Police officers and support staff, is participating in the annual Law Enforcement United Road to Hope Tour. The 250-mile bicycle ride honors officers who died in the line of duty and raises funds for programs that assist family members of fallen officers.
